So being that I've pretty much grown tired of more or less RE-Blogging things that I have seen on other websites. I'm going to start posting things that I see in my day to day life in addition to things I find on the internet, because lets face it I think a lot of things are cool but whats cooler than real life madness?

My 1st post is from when I went out to Niketown NY to chill with my boy @Swizzie as he waited for his Royal Blue Penny Foamposites. Like all lines for a sneaker it was rediculously long, with a lot of familiar faces but on this night the NYC Fire Department in the area was having a drill and there were like 10 firetrucks out there. The had fake bodies on stretchers, the street was closed off and everything. But of ourse that doesnt stop the "sneakerhead" grind, neither did the temperature. It was FREEZING out there

I also have a picture of the dopest giraffe I have EVER seen. Its in the window of the Louis Vuitton store right across from Niketown. I had to take a pic.

Nike Sportswear Destroyer Jacket - Military Green Colorway

I think it's safe to say that I'm a fan of the Nike Sportswear Destroyer jacket. I have the tonal black version, which pretty much goes with everything I wear, and I get complimented on it EVERY time I wear it. Its warm when it has to be and its a good extra layer when I don't need to be bundled up too much. Nike seems to have taken notice of the sales and appreciation of the jacket and made the destroyer in a wide array of color combination and patchwork applications.

The latest version of the destroyer that I immediately fell in love with is the Military Green colorway. It fits perfectly into the wardrobe of the guy who wears mostly jeans or khakis and will pretty much work out as a staple item in your wardrobe throughout spring (even though its probably better as a fall color).

Originally a Japanese only colorway, the Military Green Destroyer will soon be available in more Nike Sportswear locations globally. Hopefully it comes to 21 Mercer here in NYC. I'm still waiting for that French Football Federation Destroyer to release there :) Check it out. Very Cool.

I 1st got introduced to Stone Island through my good friend Kevin Saer (@YellowkidSlanty) and I immediately thought that the items that they made were really cool. Usually when you think of technical gear you think of something that is loose fitting, american, and really something made for an outdoorsman along the lines of brands like The North Face. Stone Island was completely different, 1st off it's italian made so it fits amazingly and the attention to detail is second to none. 2nd of all the materials and colors that they use are completely original and probably wont be used by any other designer in quite the same way, and lastly they werent cheap at all, which is sad to say, catered to my materialistic side in an "All Falls Down" by Kanye West sort of way.

In the above video Andrea Moro who is Head of Production over at Stone Island walks up through design concepts and production process of the Stone Island brand. Check out why I have so much respect for this brand and why you should too. Very Cool

This time is has photographed the infamous Lady GaGa for Purple Fashion Magazine clad in nothing but a wet version of the iconic Supreme "box logo" tee. Its still up in the air as to wether or not this will pe part of Supreme's new advertising campaign but based on past experiences it wouldnt surprise me.

VMAN 21: The Thrill Of The Game Issue

This Tuesday, February 8th is going to mark the release of the newest issue of VMAN. The 21st issue of the magazine will feature none other than Kanye West, shot by fashion icon Karl Largerfeld, on the cover of the magazine. VMAN uses a literal "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" spin on the cover of the magazine by putting actual money in the mouth of the magazines cover-boy.

VMAN will be having a release event for the "Thrill of The Game" issue on February 7th in NYC. Look out for an update with pictures from the event, most likely taken with my blackberry, to be uploaded later on. An assembly line, much like the one in the above video will be seen at the event taking place at the VISIONAIRE Gallery in SOHO.

This past Saturday (10/2), Kanye West performed his single "Power" off of his upcoming album due out on November 22nd. Those of you expecting to hear his "F*ck SNL and the whole cast" line from the song will be disappointed because 'Ye ended up changing the entire verse for the sake of the show. I guess it would have been kind of disrespectful right? Either way it was a great performance. Check it out!

H&M has put out sever viral videos for their upcoming Designer collaboration. None of the videos show the person talking but if you know anything about Alber Elbaz, Creative Director for Lanvin, then all signs point to Lanvin. The 1st video is DEFINITELY Alber dressed in women's clothes and I'm guessing that the 2nd, video may be Lanvin's head designer Lucas Ossendrijver but it sounds like it could be Alber agin with his voice just (electronically) set to a different pitch, just like in the other videos. This would not be the 1st big name that H&M has worked with, if you think back they have worked with Viktor and Rolf, Karl Lagerfeld, and Jimmy Choo in the past. Anyway I am very excited for this collaboration. Check out all of the videos below. Very Cool!

You live and work out of Brooklyn but we cant get any figurines!? Luckily even though these will release on August 28th for approximately $206 in Japan, the set should be available at select global retailers worldwide. Lets just hope that one of those "select retailers" is right here in New York City.

To help kick off their World Basketball Festival, Nike got ambassadors from each borough in New York City to show them around and help celebrate the culture of basketball and the Nike Air Force 1. Queens is represented in this episode and the ambassadors are none other than my Format NY family, consisting of Nigel Sylvester, Nigel Sparkes and Jason "Cheech" Hall. Being that the Dos Equis logo consit of two "X"s anyway it only made sense for Kaws to use his signature "XX" for the label. Kaws x Disney - Pinocchio & Jiminy Cricket Figures

What we have here is hopefully a first look at an upcoming Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket figure from Kaws in collaboration with Disney (and of course Medicom Toy). This was premiered at Kaws recent museum exhibition at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut. Unfortunately the piece was listed under "Collection of Artist" at the time of the exhibition. Only time will tell if this will ever be put on sale to the public. Either way the toy itself is Very Cool!

The Two Escobars - Trailer

Beginning tonight at 9pm ESPN will be premiering their documentary series 30 for 30. The first documenary will be "The Two Escobars". Based around Pablo Escobar, who was a notorious drug kingpin who controlled close to 80% of the world’s cocaine business in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s and Andrés Escobar who was a promising defender of Colombia’s national soccer team. The Two Escobars attempts to connect the dots surrounding the theory that the brutal murder of Andrés was somehow purported by Pablo (who was gunned down more than half a year prior). Even if you’re not a soccer fan, and you’re completely indifferent about the World Cup that’s going on right now, this documentary shouldn’t be ignored. It explores how drug trafficking influenced many parts of Colombia’s favorite pastime, and how the lives of spectators, owners, and players were all affected because of it.

Brooklyn Museum Exhibition - Andy Warhol: The Last Decade

For the few of you who are unfamiliar with the work of 1970s and 80s American artist Andy Warhol, starting this weekend, the Brooklyn Museum will be hosting an exhibition showcasing artwork from the Last Decade of his life.

Encompassing nearly fifty works, the exhibition reveals the artist’s vitality, energy, and renewed spirit of experimentation. During this time Warhol produced more works, in a considerable number of series and on a vastly larger scale, than at any other point in his forty-year career. It was a decade of great artistic development for him, during which a dramatic transformation of his style took place alongside the introduction of new techniques.

The exhibition runs from June 18th until September 12th, 2010. It will be located on the Robert E. Blum Gallery on the 1st Floor and in the Morris A. and Meyer Schapiro Wing on the 5th Floor. If you are in the Brooklyn NY area make sure you Check it out if you have the time. Very Cool!

Cool Tables: Furniture By Tim Byrne

Tim Byrne has applied his "fine art of function" aesthetic to creating tables, desks and benches out of old industrial machines. According to his website "The work of Tim Byrne reflects a sculptural approach to reassigning function to powerful objects. He creates relevant modern forms that reflect a personal statement of innovation, confidence and style."
Byrne will recycle old machine parts by pairing them with glass and beautiful African mahogany or rosewood in order to make something completely original out of something that would otherwise be forgotten. Each piece is finished off by being signed and numbered and although Byrne refers to these as "sculptures" they can definitely be used as very functional pieces to any man's home decor. Very Cool!

This is my JOINT! I didn't really know about Breakbot but I heard this playing in a restaurant that I went to recently and asked the in house DJ who it was. Once he told me, I went home and downloaded it. I have been jamming ever since. The video is animated with about 2,000 water-colored pictures made one after the other. I remember being a student and carrying around all of my textbooks from class to class and wishing there was an easier way to have all of my books with me without destroying my backpack and stressing my back. Had I been going to college for the 1st time this year I would definitely invest in The Kno. The Kno is a two touchscreen panel device that allows you to read and write on it, highlight and watch video. It comes in its own foldable case and navigates easily through downloaded textbooks and notes. You can switch from textbook to video and even use it as a mobile device. In terms of software, The Know is designed for learning. It features Web based homeworking systems, downloadable textbooks and professors’ materials, HTML5, Adobe Flash, and more which are integrated for a comprehensible system that will take education to the next level. As much as I think the iPad has some great functions, it definitely has it's flaws. The main flaw being that it does not have flash. With the The Kno, the only real downside is that it's friggin HUGE but its a great alternative to the iPad especially if you plan on using it for educational purposes. Check it out.

Hermès Clipper - Automatic Chronograph Watch

I haven't blogged about a watch in a while mainly because I'm honestly someone who just sticks to the regular G-Shock that I can wear all the time. But there comes a time when the G-Shock isn't appropriate to wear all the time and you have to step your game up a little. Hermès has released a new watch called the Hermès Clipper – Automatic Chronograph. It is 44 mm in diameter, and has an anti-glare treated sapphire crystal with water resistance up to 200 meters. It also features a Swiss automatic ETA Valjoux Caliber 7750 and contains a 46 hour power reserve. Definitely a step up from you average "every-day" watch. Very cool!

Sean Cliver for Supreme - Skateboard Decks & T-Shirts

Sean Cliver will be collaborating with Supreme once again for two new skateboard decks and t-shirts for Supreme's Summer 2010 collection. Due out in the US and online on June 10th and then in Japan on the 12th, this will be a follow up to Cliver's initial collaboration with Supreme from June 2008. Legendary skateboard artist Sean Cliver was born in 1969 in Wisconsin. At the age of nineteen Sean Cliver noticed an “Artist Wanted” contest in Thrasher Magazine. The company behind the contest was Powell Peralta. Recognizing this as an opportunity of a lifetime, Sean decided to submit his artwork into the contest.

Sean’s artwork was selected as a finalist in the “Artist Wanted” contest and in January of ’89 boarded a flight towards California for an interview with George Powell. Three weeks later Sean Cliver received an offer of full-time employment as an in-house artist for Powell-Peralta.

After working over nineteen years in the skateboard industry and creating an abundance of skateboard graphics most notably his Ray Barbee Ragdoll graphic for Powell Peralta and shaping the identities of World Industries, 101, Birdhouse and Hook-Ups, Sean Cliver is acknowledged as a premier artist in the skateboard world.

Not restricting himself to the skate world, Sean was also a founding Senior Editor of Big Brother Magazine. Through this venture Sean was involved in the production of the magazine and the Big Brother videotape series, which would later transform into the Jack Ass TV show.

Feeling that there was a void in a published historical archive of skateboard artwork, Sean decided to author “Disposable: A History Of Skateboard Art”. “Disposable” showcases over 1000 skateboard graphics with assorted recollections from artists and pro skateboarders throughout the past three decades.

BMW x Jeff Koons M3 GT2 Art Car

Jeff Koons has collaborated with BMW to create the 17th edition of their Art Car. This time using the M3 GT2 as its silhouette, the car was unveiled in the Centre Pompidou yesterday. This was the same venue where Roy Lichtenstein first presented and signed his Art Car back in 1977. The car will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 12th and 13th.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 Heures du Mans) is the world's oldest sports car race in endurance racing. Commonly known as the Grand Prix of Endurance, the race has been held annually since 1923 near the town of Le Mans, Sarthe, France.

As part of his creative process, Jeff Koons collected images of race cars, related graphics, vibrant colors, speed and explosions. Then by working with an actual 3-D computer-aided design (CAD) models of the BMW M3 GT2, Koons was able to simulate the application of the graphic (seen below) to the car’s surfaces and evaluate it from all angles.

The Koons car number, “79”, pays tribute to the 1979 Andy Warhol car. The Warhol car was assigned the number “76,” an homage to the 1976 Frank Stella car, both of which raced at Le Mans. The home of all BMW Art Cars is the BMW Museum in Munich. Starting in September, Koons’ 17th BMW Art Car will be presented there together with some of its predecessors.

Under Koons’ direct guidance and supervision, his BMW Art Car was produced in association with a team of BMW engineers and designers at Schmid Design, near Munich. The challenge to create the BMW Art Car had to do with using a light material and a design that would not interfere with the race car’s aerodynamics and weight.

Since there was only a two month window between the first design sketches and the Paris world premiere, timing was also an issue. This is why digital print on car wrapping vinyl was used, covered by a double clear-coating to bring out the color. The end result looks amazing. I'd love to be able to see it in person. Very Cool.

Australian born Industrial artist Marc Newson, best known for his furniture and collaborations with G-Star clothing brand has collaborated with Riva Boats to create a special edition speedboat with a limited run of 22.
The Aquarama infused Riva's attributes while keeping within his own signature style. The boat features a streamlined instrument panel, a wrap-around laminated glass windshield, separated driver and passenger seats, handles and hooks that disappear when not in use, a re-imagined stern and state-of-the-art transmission.

Louis Vuitton 2010 World Cup Trophy Travel Case

Countries all over the world will be tuning in to World Cup this year to see who will be taking home the coveted Championship Trophy and making their country proud.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup trophy measures 36 cm in height, weighs 6.175 kg and is made of solid 18-carat gold with a base of semi-precious malachite.
The World Cup takes place in South Africa on June 11th this year and it is only fitting that Louis Vuitton has been commissioned to make the case that will house the championship trophy. Handmade by a singular craftsman in Asnières near Paris. The case is covered in Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram canvas, fitted with the company’s signature brass lock and corners, and has a dark brown lining that complements the Trophy’s rich gold. Darcel Dissapoints: I Think I Found The Animated Version Of Myself...

I got introduced to Darcel by reading the blogs and coming across information about his sculpture entitled "Summer in NY is Fucked"...

At the time i didn't know that it was based on an animation by the same name done by an artist named Craig Redman.

But then a little while later I saw that Darcel was also going to the new Louis Vuitton Maison London concept store. I thought that was pretty cool but who exactly was this egg shaped black cyclops with the cool glasses on.

I went to Craig Redman's blog where I discovered that Darcel is the star of Craig Redmans animated blog "Darcel Dissapoints" that brings to life everyday trivialities and occurrences.

I began reading through his blog and I realized that Darcel and I (and probably many New Yorkers)have a lot in common. From the small things that bother New Yorkers like waiting for the train to going to visiting exhibits like the one Kaws had at the Gering & Lopez gallery and getting wasted and then feeling the results of it, I'm sure that a lot of New Yorkers can identify with Darcel. Its been officially confirmed that the Pearl Foamposite Pro is set for a re-release later this year. Although these came out just last year, it was a House of Hoops exclusive release. And even though HOH had somewhere around 700 pairs they went quickly. Luckily this will be more of a general release so all of you who missed out will be able to get a pair this time around. One of my favorite past times is to take a trip to the museum or a gallery and just look at all types of artwork. It always interest me to find new and appealing art. Sometimes I would love to be able to take some of the art at these galleries how with me however some of these pieces can range well into the millions of dollars. My next best alternative is to find artwork from the artist that will fit into my budget, and believe it or not some of the most relevant artist and photographers of our time have featured their work on skateboard decks. A lot of people dont know this about me but I collect skateboard decks. Some very influential artist have collaborated with companies on different decks and some very interesting photography and artwork has also appeared on skateboard decks. The latest set of decks that has caught my attention comes from Death Wish. The Death Wish team of riders consist of Lizard King, Furby, Erik Ellington, Antwuan Dixon, Jim Greco, and Brian Hansen who are all seated at the dinner table re-enacting Michelangelo’s masterpiece, The Last Supper. Each pro-rider takes their place along the iconic table and is represented on their respective decks. If you put all 6 decks together gets you a nice little Last Supper skate mural. Nike Air Presto Orange/Black

The Nike Air Presto has been out for a while and its making a big resurgence this year. It is honestly one of the most comfortable shoes i have ever had and this colorway is really appealing to me; Maybe because orange is my favorite color. This shoe’s upper is made of orange mesh, as well as some lycra-like stretch material. A semi-translucent plastic is used for the heel cup and lace-holding midfoot, while a black midsole sits underneath.Look for these to be released very soon.

I'm So Bow Tie Fresh

I have been riding this bow tie wave for a few years now and normally when I am on something early I fall back when it starts to pick up steam but in this case I honestly think that men should dress like gentlemen and from time to time a bow tie adds that little extra to your outfit that makes it stand out.

There was a time in our history that men would get dressed up in suits when they went out, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Neckwear in general were almost second nature for some and being clean consisted of more than a new pair of athletic shoes and a nice button front shirt.

Today however, style has changed the way it will until the end of time but I am all for the movement of getting men to take some time and get dressed up every now and then. I'm not implying that you should wear slacks and hard bottom shoes every day but also realize that just because you have on a high end pair of sneakers does not mean you are fresh. Your top half counts for a lot and I have been know to dress up a pair of Nikes with a nice sweater and a tie or bow tie from time to time the same way I dress up a pair of Lanvins. If you have EVER seen me in a club you would be able to vouch for me.

Bowties can also look great dressed down.

I'm also definitely not saying that anyone should go out and wear a bow tie just to fit into my mold of what I think looks "fresh" but every now and then throw on a tie or tuck in your shirt or even wear a shawl neck sweater or blazer instead of a regular crewneck. When you look good, chances are you feel good and when you feel good your day goes much smoother. Some guys only dress up for church and special occasions and I completely understand that, but as long as when you leave your house in the morning you feel as though you are as sharply dressed as you are going to get that day then by all means, rock out. I never understood the concept of not getting dressed up because you are "not going anywhere." Remember this, You never have a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression. As a minority it is especially important for us to remember that it makes us look better as a people when we can be seen as presentable and well dressed on 1st impression. Even though you may not be in a shirt, blazer and tie does not mean you should not take pride in how you look on a daily basis

There are too many things wrong with this for me to explain but the ridiculously sized clip on bow tie doesn't help at all.

There is however one thing about this bow tie trend that I find to be amazingly annoying and corny at the same time and that is the dreaded "pre-tied" bow tie. Why on earth do some men feel that its not okay to wear a pre-tied tie and yet the pre-tied bowtie is okay. Its not. Grow up and learn how to tie the thing hanging around your neck. First of all a pre-tied bow tie has no movement, it looks like a silk covered piece of cardboard is laying across your throat. Second of all most of them are either too big or have some type of obnoxious pattern on it that has no choice but to call attention to itself. Unless of course that was the look you were looking for and you managed to make it look good. But chances are you look like a schmuck. Cut it out. Look at any real men's fashion magazine and you will see that if there is ever a bow tie that is showcased it is never pre-tied. I understand a bow tie is different, it doesn't tie the same way but I can assure you that once you know how to tie one it is much easier to do than getting that perfect knot on a regular tie. This is not to say that a pre-tied bow tie could not look good, I just think that to some extent its cheating. Its like wearing lace locks on your Air Jordans because you don't know how to tie your shoes. If you want to wear a shoe with laces you should know how to tie them and if you want to wear a bow tie then you should know how to tie it. Otherwise just wear a regular tie and stay in your lane. It positively compliments your outfit either way.

Brad from "The Rachel Zoe Project" always looks good in a bow tie. The Ralph Lauren blazer helps out too. Very Fresh.

So gentlemen the next time you are standing in front of your closet and have no idea what to wear for the day try wearing a shirt and tie for the day and see how the opposite sex treats you and how much more approachable you will seem to be that day. You may not like it when you first try it out but if you do it after reading this post then I can almost bet that you will end up thanking me.

PRPS Fall/Winter 2010 Lookbook

Leave it to the fashion industry to remind us that Fall is right around the corner as soon as the temperature starts to warm up. In the case of the PRPS Fall/Winter collection, I don't really mind. The brand, best know for its variety of washed and distressed denim is now venturing into a full scale cut & sewn collection of shirts, pants, coats and knits. It has been only about a month since the last Kaws bearbrick but it seems as though Kaws is giving the collectors what they want ASAP and releasing the Black version of his dissected bearbrick companion on May 8th. Louis Vuitton iPad Cases

I personally think that the iPad is a complete waste of money. I used to have an iPad mini called an iPod Touch but that's neither here nor there. Probably the BEST reason to have the iPod right now in my opinion is the new Louis Vuitton cases for the iPad. The cases will be released next year and come in either the Classic LV monogram or the Graphite Damier pattern. Each case cost $240 which actually isn't that bad considering they sell coin purses for that same price. Check it out.

How I Fell In Love With Sneakers

Since I was really young I've always been into getting "fly". I was born in 83 and I spent my summers in East New York Brooklyn where my cousin who I believe worked for Macy*s at the time would always keep me in Guess Jeans and Ralph Lauren polo shirts, and make sure my mom kept it up during the year, and there was nothing flyer than a pair of Air Jordans.

It was the summer of 1991 and Air Jordans were not as expensive as they are today but they were still pretty pricey for a pair of sneakers for a kid going to 3rd grade at the time. I needed a pair of Air Jordans next year and I was not taking no for an answer, so when the summer came and it was time for back to school shopping I was on it. At the time the Air Jordan VI in the Black/Infared colorway was out and I remember going to Modell's with my mother and BEGGING her for a pair. She eventually gave in and got them for me. I thought that I could jump higher and all of the other things that little kids would believe when they saw an Air Jordan commercial back then. Unfortunately for me I think I got two solid months of having those shoes because by the end of the summer i jumped from the top of my steps into some wet paint that my uncle had left out after painting my patio steps. Washing them helped but the kicks just werent the same. I needed a new pair of sneakers and my moms was NOT buying another pair of Jordans. It didnt help that I had already had my 1st taste of that Air Jordan "crack" and I was hooked.

But I think the very moment I actually FELL IN LOVE with my footwear was in 1992, right after the Bulls had won their 2nd Chip and we being referred to as the "Untouchabulls." Michael Jackson came out with a video for his song "Jam" off of his 1991 Dangerous album and Micheal Jordan had on the Bordeaux colorway in the Air Jordan VII. I think I wanted those more than anything else in the world at that point but at the time my mother had already bought my school shoes and it was NOT happening. I think I fell in love with Air Jordans right there, probably because I couldnt get them and I just REALLY liked that colorway. I blame my Mom and Michael Jackson for my sneaker addiction, and it didnt help that every time I turned on the TV Dwayne Wayne (A Different World) Jerry Seinfeld (Seinfeld) and Will Smith (The Fresh Prince) had on a pair of Air Jordans.

Needless to say, I couldnt get a pair every year, I got a few Air Jordans when my Mother could afford it when it came time to shop for school clothes. I think we drove all over new your city looking for the lowtop Air Jordan 11 in white/light grey in the summer of 1996 as a gift after I received my Holy Confirmation from Sacred Heard School in Queens. Yeah...I'm a Catholic School boy, so what.
But when I got to high school and got my 1st Job at Waldbaums Supermarket in Bayside, it was ALL OVER. I would cut last period and go buy Air Jordans on a monthly basis. Air maxes were getting equal shine too because if it was new I had em and it didnt stop. My entire check would go to Nikes and clothes because you cant be fly with just fly sneakers, the outfit has to match, but thats a story for another blog.

My boys at Cardozo HS down the block could wear sneakers every day but I had to lie to the nurses and tell them I sprained my ankle to get a sneaker pass to wear my kicks or it was detention for breaking uniform. Again, I'm a catholic school boy so there had to be ways around everything. To this day I have sneakers that I probably only wore a hand-full of times since high school but I'll break em out if I feel like it on a nice day.

College was worse, 2 of my best friends and I would promote the biggest parties on campus so I really didn't know what It felt like to be a stereotypical "broke" college student and mommy and daddy weren't giving me a DIME for my habit. I grew up with these guys so needless to say they were "sneaker-heads" too so It always seemed like we were in competition for the newest kicks out.
Before A Bathing Ape was even in in the United States, my boys and I were shipping them in from Japan. Back then patent leather bapes were lame...it was all about the colored snake skin Bapesta. I remember people asking me "What I had done to my Nike Air Force 1s?" and "Why was I wearing fake Nike's." Fakes weren't my style...being up on that new new was.

Then the Nike SB Dunk hit and it was all over. I would have people stop me in the street and offer to buy them off of my feet. "Where'd you get those" was a question my boys and I would hear ALL THE TIME on campus. It was like having a foreign car on your feet, people liked them but had no idea how to get them or how much they were. I will tell you right now that there are a lot of sneakers that I will wear today that if you bought them today might run you close to $1,000 and I paid $90 for them and bought them with no problem because I just knew about them from way back then.
The was an attention factor that you get from having on a fresh pair that nobody could get and I fell in love with the exclusivity.

Then in 2005 right before I graduated, the Nike SB Dunk low "Pigeon" came out only at 1 store in NY while I was still up in college. And right then and there the game officially changed. There was a riot for these shoes, kids were getting robbed, people were getting escorted out by police and it made the FRONT PAGE of the New York Post newspaper. People started to realize how crazy this "sneaker game" was and it got over saturated, everyone was on it and I began falling out of love.

Now dont get me wrong, I still love sneakers but I don't buy nearly as much as I used to, they aren't the same. The shoes are being made cheaper and when they "Retro" the classics they don't look or feel the same anymore but there is just something about a nice sneaker that always brings me back in. I guess I'll never really change, I just slowed down a little. I look for sneakers that have a stand out quality, or are some type of collaboration between Nike and another artist, store, or brand like the pair I have on in my profile picture. Done by Nike and a Japanese brand named Swagger, these actually came as 1 pair of sneakers in 2 different colors. (People ask me about that ALL THE TIME)
I think I'm going to wear sneakers until the day I die, I just may slow down on the buying sprees for now. Afterall, sneakers cant pay your rent or a car note....right?

The Triumphant Return Of The Boat Shoe...That Never Really Left.

Over 7 decades ago, in 1935 Paul Sperry invented a shoe for the man who loved the thrill of sailing on the open water and named them Sperry Top-Siders. With a white rubber sole for stability and to help avoid scratching the deck of a boat. Paired with a leather upper and leather shoe strings, the original boat shoe was very practical for sailors; So much so that even today Sperry Top-Siders are part of the US Naval Academy's casual uniform.

But much has changed since then and in the past 2 years we have seen a big resurgence of the "boat shoe" and its not just for boats. Other brands like Tods, Lanvin, Converse and Rockport have come out with their own version of the boat shoe which has taken off amongst the wealthy and the casual buyer alike.

I actually had this pair a few years back

The best thing is that you don't need a boat to own a pair anymore. "Deck shoes" as they are sometimes called can be seen on the feet of young urban dweller all over the country. They are made in a simple silhouette and doesn't take much more than a well fitting pair of jeans/pants to make it look good.

Boat shoes now come in either high or low top, a wide array of colors and are made out of various materials all while staying true to the rubber bottom, or a variation of it. Recently the well known fashion brand Band of Outsiders has gone back to the roots of the boat shoe and has collaborated with Sperry Top-Sider for their own twist on the boat shoe. Being made in a wide array of colors and materials the boat shoe is on its way to becoming the new sneaker. There isn't a color that you wouldn't be able to find and Band of Outsiders is making your search for the perfect outfit just a bit easier.

Band of Outsiders x Sperry Top-Siders Spring/Summer 2010 collection has a lot of gems including this very very nice pink nylon/suede colorway that caught my eye immediately. Normally I probably wouldn't be too interested in a pink shoe but the choice of materials and contrasting colors drew me in so much so that it made me write this post. The grey pair made from sweatshirt material is not too shabby either. Very Cool.

Nike SB Eugene Backpack - "Gucci" Colorway

Let me start by saying that although I like the design of the Eugene backpack by Nike SB, I do not like how it fits. I always feel like I am taking up entirely too much space when I have it on. I have the now infamous "Buzz Lightyear" colorway and I bought it simply because I liked how the colors went together. I think I am interested in the Eugene backpack yet again because of the same reason. The Gucci colorway is always a classic colorway and I think Nike put the icing on the cake when they made that front buckle with a metal gold finish. It doesn't get any better. Inspired by the recent release of the RESN "Gucci" Dunk SB Hi this backpack may go down as one of the best colorways...in my opinion at least. Look for this to release very soon at select Nike SB retailers. Very Cool.

Let me 1st say that I REALLY like these. Its really not the normal shoe that I would be attracted to but there is something about the trifecta of Native American goods, craftsmanship from various Italian-manufactured footwear and antique military surplus that drew me in.
This is yet another joint effort between Vans Vault and Taka Hayashi which debuts two new silhouettes, namely the Prison Issue Lace LX and Priz Hi Lace LX. The gray Priz Hi Lace LX may have to be next on my "hit-list"

I'm never one to leave the house without a watch, it always makes my wrist feel naked. I know a lot of people dont mind having their cellular phone as a substitue for a watch but the good folks at Celsius X VI II have taken it one step further by completely combining an cellular phone with a tourbillion watch that integrates a patented rewinding mechanism hidden within its hinge.

Its been a slow week but I'm officially back with a post about one of my favorite accessories; the bowtie. PEGLEG is teaming up with United Arrows & Sons for two ties and bowties, both with a "stars and stripes" motif that reminds me a lot of a Tommy Hilfiger tie I had when I was much younger. I especially like the black stars and stripes, and even though the bowtie isn't represented here I'm sure it would look amazing based on how the actual neck tie looks. Very Cool.

Nike SB Dunk Hi "Skunk"

It took me a few seconds to get what was actually going on with these dunks and even though I'm pretty much over the whole "SB Dunk" phase of my life, you have got to respect Nike's ingenuity to slip things under the radar. As a Quickstrike release, due out in April 2010 and designed by Todd Bratrud, I didn't really understand why it was being called the "Skunk" until I saw the picture of the seemingly "high" skunk on the insole and really paid close attention to how the material looks on the shoe. The inside is an illustration of a green skunk. OK, then there is a stask pocket right behind the tongue, so it didn't take much longer for me to figure out that the "skunk" that they were referring to wasn't actually the animal, but the type of Marijuana. The material they used for the entire upper of the shoe seems to imitate the look of marijuana with hairs on it. Then Nike set it off with a purple swoosh. This shoe must be crowned the official weed-head sneaker of the decade. But remember Nike was the 1st to make a low top dunk sb out of hemp, so they have been riding the marijuana wave for a little while now. How much does anyone want to bet that these release on 4/20?

I'm no psychic but I have become very aware of how Nike does things, I predicted this as SOON as I saw that the "infared" Air Jordan VI was coming out in "sport red" instead of the classic infared colorway. Coming in June 2010 Nike will be releasing BOTH the white and black colorways of the infared Air Jordan VI in what they will be calling the Air Jordan VI "Infared Pack." I'm sorry for all of those who rode the wave entirely too early but all I can say is...I told you so. Now if only they put "Nike Air" on the back of them. It will never happen but I can dream can't I?
